Noah couldn't believe his ears. "Real-really?"
Actually, he did not harbor other intentions. He just thought a woman like her would not be able to survive alone in the mountains and he did not want anything t o happen to her. But Jane felt warm. She had been thoroughly hurt by Alex. Now all she wanted was a quiet and peaceful life, no matter how poor and simple it was.
She said gently, "I...Since I was a child, my parents didn't want me. I always wanted a mother to love me, from now on I'll acknowledge you as my godmother. When we’re back in the north, I'll find a job, even dishwashing will do. I'll take care of you."
"Oh, my dear girl..." The old lady was delighted. Life had been tough for her. Especially after she went to South City, she was forced to labor and even bottled u p her anger. But in the end, she lost her only grandchild. The old woman had lost her meaning and purpose in life. But at the thought of her son, she knew she had to survive. And now, luckily, she got a daughter. Her mood brightened considerably.
After making their decision, Noah carried his old mother on his back and led Jane, and the three of them gradually walked out of the mountains and ridges and left the metropolitan City of South City. In a city closest to South City, they boarded the slowest
train and returned to their hometown in the north.
At the same time, on the other end, Alex searched every nook and cranny of South City for Jane, even searching through a very small and inconspicuous motel. Later, Alex also hunted through those hidden and cheaper hair salons. But still, he could not find even a single trace of her. He grew more and more desperate every day. A month had passed since he went home to Kidon City. Back home, he had a ton of work commitments to attend to, but Alex was not in the mood to deal with any of them at all.
Luckily, he had his best friend Sebastian. Everything that Alex could do, Sebastian did them all perfectly for him. Even if Alex was in such a decadent state, none o f his business commitments in Kidon City remained unattended to. This was what best friends did for each other.
A month ago, when Sabrina was helpless and forced into a tight spot by Old Master Shaw, Alex had also helped Sabrina and Sebastian tirelessly. That was why even though Sabrina felt sorry for Jane, and hated Alex because he was the reason why they failed to find Jane. Still, she did not stop Sebastian from helping him.
After work, Sabrina brought Aino with her to Sebastian's office. When she saw Alex sitting in Sebastian's office looking so lost and depressed, she boiled him a pot of buckwheat tea.
"Drink some, it'll help cool you down. If you maintain your anger inside, sooner or later, you'll fall sick." Sabrina looked at Alex with a displeased gaze.
Alex raised his head and looked at her coldly. "She can't survive by herself. Now that she’s left me, anyone can successfully trick her. Even if they sell her off, she'll be counting the change for them! If she leaves me, how can she survive?" i
Sabrina was so angry, the pot of boiling water spilled onto both of his hands. Alex yelped, flinging his hands in pain at the burning water.
She ignored his pain, roaring at him in anger, her expression ice-cold. "Mr. Poole! You know full well that Jane doesn’t have the ability to survive on her own. You know she’s as innocent as a piece of blank paper and is easily tricked, and yet you still chased her away. A woman who has been by your side for so many years, don't tell me you don't have any feelings for her at all? You’re so cold-blooded! But you’re not completely cold-blooded either! You gave your all to a woman who left you so for many years, a woman who didn't even care whether you’re dead or alive. Look how badly you pampered her, she’s run wild and completely out of control now!" Alex hung his head.
