But soon, he recovered and grinned. "Silly girl, what's there to be afraid of over being pregnant. Just give birth to it. There are three adults here, and we are surely capable of raising one child, aren't we?"
"I... I can't. My ex-boyfriend..."
"You don't want him to know."
She shook her head. "I don't want his child. I have to get rid of it. I want..." She glanced over at Noah. She had made up her mind along their journey so far. Jane mustered up the courage and said, "Noah, will you marry me once we get back to your hometown?"
"Sis, I'm older than you. I am forty-five this year.
That's ten years older than you. I'm uneducated, and even though your clothes are all ragged, I can tell that you have lived a comfortable life thus far. I can't ruin your life."
"I get it, Noah. You must be disgusted by me," Jane smiled bitterly as tears scrolled down her cheeks.
He smiled. "Silly girl, just look at me. I have an old woman I have to look after. Who am I to be disgusted b y you? I'm just as good as a caveman that lives deep in the woods. I can't ask that you suffer through that kind of life with me. I was planning to find a good and honest family for you to marry into the moment we get back, and I would be where you refer to as home.
Your children would call me uncle. I never dreamt of marrying you. I was married once and had kids before, and at my age, I am hardly a good match for you. I... I don't think I will be getting married for the rest of my life."
"But Noah, I've always wanted to get married. Always.
I just never dared to say that in front of my exboyfriend. I never did," she said as she looked at Noah eagerly. "I want to get married. I want a child and a peaceful life with children playing in the background. Will you marry me?"
"If you don't want to, then I'm not going with you. A pregnant woman like me shouldn't drag you down."
"Alright! Okay, I'll marry you. I'll marry you as soon as we get home. I'll take you to get our marriage certificate," he agreed excitedly.
Jane sighed a breath of relief. "I'll need to get rid of the child in my belly if you are willing to marry me."
"No, no, no, no, you can't. The child is innocent."
