Marcus chuckled with resignation. "You are too smart and sharp-witted, Laddie."
"It's okay, I can understand it. You have been relatives for so long, after all, it's only natural that she would want to come home and visit her family. Besides, it has nothing to do with my mother anyways." She paused, before pleading honestly. "Cousin Marcus, do you mind not telling my mom about this?"
She bit her lips and forced a bitter smile. "Though my mom refused to acknowledge her father and brother, the injustice and humiliation she faced when she was young was still imprinted on her. She had to watch as even the girl who was merely a distant relative could share the love of her father, while she was despised..."
"I know..." Marcus said. "I know what Aunt Gloria had been through. In my heart, I have only one aunt, and that's your mother, not anyone else. I won't trade my bond with Aunt Gloria for anything in the world, nor will I force her into acknowledging grandpa and my father as her family. Don't worry about it."
"Thank you, Cousin Marcus." 1
"Let's go and help Aunt Gloria with the dumplings." 1
"Okay."
In the end, they all had a great time sharing the dumplings through chatter and laughter. After
everyone was full, they continued to chat casually while Aino had her nap in her grandmother's room. Marcus helped to clean the weeds and manage the plants for his aunt in the garden, while Sebastian called someone over to adjust the keys in Gloria's piano. Sabrina helped to rehearse the dance moves for her mother, and the afternoon slipped by before anyone noticed. The group carried on and had dinner a t Gloria's place as well, but as Gloria needed to rest early, Sabrina and Sebastian did not stay for long. Naturally, Marcus went with them as well.
Once they were out the door, Sabrina said to Marcus i n all sincerity. "Thank you for coming to see my mom, Cousin Marcus. You care for her so much that she feels like she has two children."
"Don't worry, I will continue to take care of Aunt Gloria."
"You are a good man, Cousin Marcus, I'll be sure to convince Yvonne that she shouldn't let you slip by. Not just for you but also for her sake."
