"Sure." The old lady smiled. "If you want me to say it, then I'll say it. I have been married to you for ten years! In the last ten years, you take your grandchildren and your daughter seriously, but what about mine? You gave money to your grandchildren. With the amount of money you have spent on them every year, which one of them didn't cost you tens of thousands just on buying clothes and snacks alone? But, what about mine? I only have a grandson. Other than you buying the cheapest formula powder every month that costs a hundred dollars each in the first year, he had not even worn a single piece of new clothing growing up after that! All that he had worn were unwanted clothes given to him as a charity by the neighbors! Neo Dixon, ask yourself with a clear conscience, how did you treat your relatives and how did you treat my relatives?"
"Old woman! You're being unreasonable!" Neo was very unyielding. He looked at the few people in the city hall, then pointed at the old lady. "Let's clarify in front of everyone now! We are both remarried! We both have our respective children! You married me alone! You don’t even have any property, and I've made sure you get to eat and have a roof over your head! It's been so many years! Have I complained about anything? You’re the one I married, not your whole family! It's not enough that I have to take care of you, but I also have to take care of your whole family? Let everyone
here judge, is this appropriate?"
Everyone in the lobby heard him. Some people nodded. Some people shook their heads and walked away. This is their family matter, so no one would judge the matter for them. There were only the two managers beside the old lady.
The female manager criticized the old lady in a fair manner. "Say, Madam Cecilia, just talking on this matter alone, then it’s you who is at fault! Both you and Neo had remarried. Neo is a person with a job and pension. He should take care of his children. He married you, but not your whole family! It was him being very kind to take care of your grandson back then. You can't hold his kindness against him and push your luck! So, you're divorcing him because he doesn't care for your grandson? Then...aren’t you committing marriage fraud? Madam Cecilia, this is unethical. Let's go, follow us back. We're not going through with the divorce. You're already an old married couple for more than a decade. What are you doing?”
She then turned towards Neo. "Neo, let me tell you this, let the bygones be bygones. You’re a man, so you should be a bigger person. You can’t make a fuss about your past contributions with Madam Cecilia anymore after you've arrived home! Do you know that? Come on, let’s take Madam Cecilia home."
After she said that, the two managers held the old lady by one arm each, and then they dragged her out. Neo was also pushing the old lady from behind. How could an old lady fight against three people by herself? They dragged her to the entrance of the city hall in one fell swoop. Out of desperation, the old lady shouted." Security! Security! Please help me call the police and tell them someone is kidnapping me! Help me!”
The security immediately came out. "What are you doing? You’re actually holding someone hostage in broad daylight?"
Neo immediately turned to the security. "This is...this i s my wife. She is here to ask for a divorce from me."
The security was speechless.
"Sir, help me. I must get a divorce. I have had enough o f being in his house. I will die if I go back now. Don't let them take me away." The old lady cried inconsolably.
The old lady did not get taken away by Neo after they were stopped by the security. They just kept waiting there until the afternoon shift at the city hall started. The old lady was the first to sit in front of the window for processing.
The first thing the staff asked was, "Divorce? Are there any divisions of properties?"
"Yes!" Neo said incomparably heartlessly. "She had been eating, drinking, and living at my house for ten years. I even helped raise her grandson. I will only agree to get divorced if she agrees to compensate me two hundred thousand dollars!”
