Nevertheless, it was too late for regrets now. After having been so reckless, Selene had no choice but to fight her way out of this.
"Sabrina, I think there must be some misunderstanding here, I've never had the intention to steal anything from you..." she smiled awkwardly.
"No!" Sabrina interrupted her fiercely. "There’s no misunderstanding at all. You have been taking everything from me ever since we were children.
"I would even consider myself lucky on the days when I managed to salvage your leftovers.
“What I know is that you took away what was mine, and even tried stealing the man who belongs with me.
"It's not exactly news that you often refer to my husband as your fiance. In fact, I'm sure that every single person in South City knows that you spread rumors about being engaged to Sebastian. I'm not just talking about blabbering to a friend or two. No, you’ve told countless people that you're his fiance."
Though Sabrina's harsh words were clearly intended t o entrap and rebuke Selene, her tone was so mild and calm that it almost sounded like she was harmless.
Meanwhile, Selene, feeling like she was being surrounded by fire with nowhere to run, could only plead softly.
"Sis, most of the things that happened between us were really just misunderstandings. At the end of the day, you're still my sister..."
Sabrina did not intend to let her off easy.
"I overheard some rumors about me on the very first day I came to work here, something along the lines of Sebastian having a fiance, and that the alleged lucky woman was the grand-daughter of the old Master Shaw, Selene Lynn.
"I also heard something about me being a prisoner that Sebastian had captured from miles away. I wonder where all those rumors came from?
"The employees in the firm? Where there's smoke, there's always fire," Sabrina snapped back, before flashing a disdainful look at Madeline, the woman who had tried to give her the Green Mountain coffee.
When she noticed Sabrina's glare, the startled Madeline immediately lowered her head.
That was the moment when she realized how smart Sabrina truly was. She could precisely distinguish between those who had been kind to her and those who had bore ill intentions against her.
It was just that she had simply decided to ignore them in the office when she could.
