Lincoln gaped at Sabrina and realized that the smile had faded from her face, leaving only the pure, silent hatred oozing from within her soul.
"Sa-" He struggled to say something but couldn't seem to find his voice.
"That's right, you remember correctly. I'm Sabrina, Sabrina Scott, not Sabrina Lynn," Sabrina interrupted.
Lincoln's heart sank at the unspoken words of what Sabrina truly meant to say. "That's not-1...But still I-" h e stuttered, but was once again intercepted by Sabrina before he could finish.
"But still you had raised me for eight years? Be honest, Mr. Lynn, did you really? For the eight years I lived under your roof, never once have you given me any love or concern apart from what little you gave me as living allowances. I have not received a dollar from you ever since I went to college. Besides, I believe I've made it even by taking your daughter's place in prison, don't you think so?"
Selene wanted to argue, but soon realized that her life was hanging by a thread. She could easily get herself killed by speaking against Sabrina.
Lincoln, too, knew better than to argue. "Sabrina, about your time in prison..." "I can emphasize on sending me to prison. She is your
one and only daughter, after all. How could a father bear the thought of sending his baby girl to suffer in prison? Well, that's where having an adopted daughter like me comes in handy, right? Mr. Lynn, your love for your daughter really knows no bounds. That kind of love really left me awe-struck."
"You..." Lincoln could feel the fear manifested and spread within him like a virus as he realized she was referring to something else.
"You...what do you know?" he muttered, and instantly regretted asking a question that would raise suspicion that he had secrets.
Sabrina let out a sarcastic laugh. "Me? I'm just an orphan with no father! My mother died when I was sent off to prison, so what exactly could I know? Or maybe I should be asking you what exactly are you so scared of me finding out?"
"I have to say, though, Mr. Lynn." Her lips curled into a smile. "I think you have missed a certain point here. You really should have your eyes checked."
"What...what is it?" he asked robotically. Considering the current circumstances, he worried that Sabrina might ask Sebastian to have all three of them killed at any moment.
"You see, back when you got me out of prison to save my husband, you should have told my husband the truth and treated me like your real daughter afterward. Had you done so, you would have been Sebastian Ford's father-in-law by now. Oh, sorry! That wasn't right. It's his stepfather-in-law. What a shame that you missed your chance! Not only did you miss your chance, you have plotted against me over and over again. But you have failed to predict that I would survive hell and still become Sebastian's wife. So, don't you think you should get your eyes checked? With eyes like that, you shouldn't be trusted to make any investment at all. There could be a stock with great potential and you would probably let it slip away right before you." i
Chills went down Lincoln's spine as Sabrina spoke. He was sweating profusely, unable to shake the fear he felt towards every word she said.
Noticing his reaction, she continued, "You are sweating, Mr. Lynn, did you do something bad?"
The question struck him like lightning. Lincoln's knees gave in and he fell to the ground, breathing heavily.
"Sabrina, I-" he started. All it took was a second, just a second, and he could finally say what he had wanted t o say for a long time. But Sabrina was determined in not letting him.
