Granduncle Scott immediately stopped speaking and shuddered in shock when he heard the loud and boisterous voice.
He whispered to Sabrina softly, "Your cousin is here."
Upon hearing this, Sabrina turned around calmly and saw a woman standing in Granduncle Scott's rundown yard.
She looked to be five or six years older than Sabrina. A t a glance, people might have assumed that she was in her 30s.
Though she was quite well dressed, the woman’s skin was atrocious and she looked slightly plump as well.
Without hesitation, she yelled arrogantly in the direction of the house, “Sabrina! It looks like you finally remembered your hometown, come out!"
Then, she said to Granduncle Scott, "Hey, old man, I think you're on the wrong side here. Even your own daughter and son-in-law are afraid to come back here, and yet, you're expecting this little mixed-breed to support you?"
Mixed-breed?
When she heard the phrase, Sabrina was instantly brought back to her childhood, where the other villagers would insult her by calling her a 'little mixed-
breed'.
People often made remarks right to her face, saying things like, "Your father is barren, and you're the extra baggage your mother brought along with her. You little mixed-breed, you’re quite lucky that your father loves you so much."
That’s right, her father loved her.
Growing up, Sabrina's family was extremely poor. Since her father was basically a cripple that couldn’t d o much heavy labor and her mother had to take care o f Sabrina at home, their family was much worse off financially than others.
Even so, her father would always look for odd jobs around the village so as to make Sabrina's life a little better. Every time they could afford some meat, her parents would only look on as she ate.
Back then, Sabrina had asked her parents why they didn't eat it too.
They always gave the same answer, "Sabbie, you need t o grow, so you must eat more meat."
Because of their kindness, Sabrina had always thought of them both as her own biological parents.
Gathering her resolve, she walked out of Granduncle Scott's house and looked on calmly at the woman who was supposedly her cousin. "Who are you?"
