"You have driven yourself insane thinking about climbing your way up the social ladder! But you never belong! You are a Mann, not a Shaw! Do you really think that you can rule over South City and Kidon City simply because you have the support of the old Master Shaw? Just how stupid can you be? You want to marry my husband-to-be, but do you know how he sees you? You are barely even a maggot to him!
Wealthy families are not as simple as you think they are! A woman like you, who would harm your own cousin only for a chance to marry into a wealthy family, will never become a lady of high status! You will always be pathetic!"
"Go to hell!" Mindy gritted out. She was surprised at herself for actually listening to what Ruth had to say about her. She pulled at Ruth's hair viciously and barked, "Uncle, auntie, get me a knife, now! I'm going t o destroy her face, let's see how Master Ryan would like that!"
Destroy her face? Ruth couldn't care less. She had found peace in her heart and could finally empathize with what Sabrina had gone through before. She didn't have the power to fight back, but she would never succumb or cave! She refused to beg for mercy! She stared at Mindy and her parents, with tears welling up in her eyes. At that very moment, she could hear her heart shattering into pieces.
In the end, her mother suggested, "Mindy, we can destroy her face anytime we want. But why don't we sell her off in exchange for some money before that? With sufficient money, you can go shopping for clothes and get prepared for your date with Master Ryan!"
Mindy beamed at Mrs. Mann's suggestion. "You are always so thoughtful, auntie. Shall we go ahead and d o that today, then?"
"You...what are you going to do?" Alarmed, Ruth questioned sharply.
Mr. Mann sneered and stepped forward to seal her mouth with duct-tape and place the sack back onto her head, before placing her into an enormous suitcase. The three carried her down and loaded her onto the car. Ruth came close to suffocating in the suitcase. Lucky for her, the car didn't go far before stopping and the suitcase was taken out of the back of the car, and she managed to peek through a small tear on the suitcase. For someone who grew up in South City, Ruth knew the city like the back of her hand. She also knew that there was only one place this filthy in South City, and that was the slum. She immediately knew that was where Sabrina used to live.
The three took her down to the underground hostel and when she was finally untied, she distinctly heard that her parents were going to trade her for a million dollars. One million dollars in exchange for her!
Right before they left, the owner told her parents, "You can take the money with you first. I'll need to see if this girl is worth it or not. If not, you are still going to have to pay me back!"
"Yes, of course!" Mr. Mann bowed and nodded respectfully.
Just like that, her parents and cousin left right before Ruth's eyes and she was locked up in the hostel. At first, she remained tied up and learnt that the owner intended to get her to start working three days later, once the marks on her face faded. Soon after, they untied her and Ruth took the opportunity by excusing herself to the bathroom to call Sabrina with her small phone.
