"Do you want a child?" Alex asked in a hoarse voice.
Jane shook her head with determination. "No, Alex! I don't want children!"
"Really?"
She smiled and leaned against his chest. "I'm a woman, Alex. I'm a living being who just got an abortion, it's not possible for me to not be upset. But I'm an adult, I know what I'm doing. I would have to plan ahead for the child if I give birth to her, so I don't want kids. I never thought I would be able to stay by your side for six years. That's six years worth of happiness. I'm not greedy, Alex." She closed her eyes and murmured, "As long as I get to stay by your side, t o serve you and watch you, I think that is already the best gift God could give me. Everyday feels like a paradise to me. I've gotten more than my worth, Alex, d o you understand?"
Relieved, Alex tightened his arms around her and pulled her closer. He lowered his head and planted a few gentle kisses on the top of her head. "You are the most understanding woman I've ever met," he said gently.
Jane replied with a sweet grin. "Hubby, do you want to hear me say I love you?"
He nodded. It wasn't that he really wanted to hear
those words. It was more about the innocent expression she had everytime she said those words. She was half a year older than he was and she rarely acted childish, which made him want it more.
"Hubby...hubby...HUBBY!" She was a little shy. Her face flushed pink with stars in her eyes as she smiled and looked at him.
All it took for that one expression for him to feel overwhelmed. He abruptly shoved her aside, before getting out of bed and going straight to the bathroom. He didn't come out until over an hour later, his entire body was freezing cold. He didn't dare getting any closer to her in fear that she might catch a cold, and s o he commanded coolly, "Go sleep in your own room!"
Jane wasn't upset about it. She knew he was doing it for her sake. He was cautious not to burden her body a t the time, and his days of celibacy continued for over twenty days.
Weeks had passed and that night in the mansion hidden away in the mountains, the man who had suppressed himself for days had finally been satisfied. She laid lazily on her own bed and stared at the old photo in her hand and the first thing that came to her mind was still the idea of having children. She suddenly realized why her own parents had so many children. To have a home filled with laughter and the sound of children chirping, Jane did agree that it would have been the happiest thing one could experience.
She thought back to what she had seen between Sabrina and Sebastian earlier that day at the shooting range, and felt bitter. Both Alex and Sebastian were men who treasure their women, but Jane could tell that Sebastian was in love with his woman, whereas Alex was not in love with her. She set the photo down by her nightstand and closed her eyes, trying to force herself to sleep. "Does it really matter? I only care that I love Alex." 1
She repeated those words over and over again to herself until she eventually drifted off to sleep. Perhaps she had been too tired that night, she was knocked out completely into a dreamless sleep. The next day, she was woken up by someone knocking on her door and she was stunned for a moment when she heard the voice. "Open up! Open up! Open the door!"
