The even more unkempt one was Ruth Mann! She was nothing but a shrewd, uncultured, unkempt woman, with no family background to boast about! And yet she married the second son of the Poole family, Ryan Poole! How could she! And that Jane Sheen! Back then, she was nothing but a beggar! A woman who was sold like a piece of product! And yet she was fortunate enough to become Alex's girlfriend! A homeless woman, someone who almost starved to death despite begging for food, was now living a better life than her, the eldest daughter of the Poole family! 1
Autumn looked at the four of them laughing and chatting together merrily. The longer she looked, the more furious she got. All four of them were nothing but lowly batches. Sabrina was an ex-convict, for heaven's sake! Wandering from city to city for years! Jane's situation was no better than being in prison either. Even though the other two were slightly better, they were still just common folks. Birds of the same feathers flock together indeed! If Ruth and Jane really married into the Poole family, then sooner or later, the family would be ruined in the hands of such lowly, inferior women. At this thought, Autumn took out her phone again and dialed a number.
It rang for a long while before the call was answered.
"Hey, and I thought you wouldn’t be returning home for the rest of your life," Autumn said, disgruntled.
On the other end, the voice sounded faint and scratchy, as if it was coming from a far distance. "I want to come home, but I can’t leave...”
"If you still don't come home, Alex is really going to marry that woman," she replied gruffly.
"Are...are you serious?" The voice on the other end sounded like she was panicking.
Autumn laughed coldly. "Why would I lie to you?"
With that, she ended the call immediately. Then, she glanced at the four women again, laughed coldly and left the mall, carrying bags of various shapes and sizes in her hands.
Right at this moment, four women sat on a bench to rest their feet, laughing and conversing merrily.
"Jane, you've spent so much money on me today, I feel so embarrassed. I’ve only met you today and you already bought me so much stuff.” Yvonne looked at Jane, embarrassed.
Ruth felt embarrassed too. "Exactly, Aunt Jane, how could you spend so much of your money on us like this?"
Jane laughed. "You’re addressing me as your aunt now! Since this is the first time I’m meeting my niece-i n-law, I should give you a present.”
Jane was ecstatic. There was a million dollars inside the black card that Alex gave her. Initially Alex had asked her to keep it with her, but she wasn't a spendthrift. And even when she did leave the house, she was usually with Alex. Alex would cover all their expenses, so she didn't need to spend much money in her day-to-day life.
But today was the happiest she ever felt from spending. Being able to hang out with Sabrina, Yvonne and Ruth, she felt as if she had aged backward too! At least she didn’t have to think before speaking every sentence like she did when was with Alex’s friends.Today, she was extremely relaxed. 2
Sabrina was just about to suggest that they go for lunch when her phone rang.
She took a look and it was from Star Island again. The smile immediately vanished from Sabrina's face." Hello! Who are you?"
