Doris wanted to run as fast as she could, but her legs were too sore and painful.
"Jay!" Perhaps it was because she was too anxious that Doris finally shouted out.
"Mrs. Fang, Ace is awake. Why are you sleeping here?" The nanny came over and gently shook Doris' shoulder.
All of a sudden, Doris woke up from her dream, catching her breath. She turned her head at the window and found that it was already dawn.
"Is Jay back?" The first thing she thought of asking was of course, if her husband had come home. However, she didn't get the answer that she wanted.
"Is Mr. Fang out? I don’t know." Last night, when Jay went to his room to change his clothes, the nanny went to the baby's room. When the nanny coaxed Ace to sleep, she also fell asleep.
Out of courtesy, Jay had specially arranged a lounge in the nursery room for the nanny so she could rest too when the baby was asleep.
Therefore, the nanny just woke up and didn't know that Jay was not at home.
Feeling helpless, Doris only sighed. "Go and look after Ace. Don't forget to feed him. I have something to do today."
Since she wasn't sure yet whether Jay was dead or alive, she still couldn't say anything to the nanny.
The nanny bowed to her and left without a word.
Doris' legs were too numb for her to move. She tried to, and it felt as if there were ten thousand ants biting her legs.
No wonder her legs were so uncomfortable in her dream just now.
Even so, Doris stood up and limped to the bedroom because she wanted to call Hanson, and then Charles and Nancy to tell them what had happened to Jay.
Before she could dial Hanson's number, a phone call came in. So she answered it in a hurry.
"Hello, is this Ms. Doris He?"
"Yes, I am." Hearing the serious voice from the other line, Doris suddenly felt so nervous that she held her phone tightly. She was afraid of hearing news about people finding Jay's dead body. Her heart was pounding as if it was about to jump out. Beads of sweat began to form on her forehead as she waited for what the person was about to say.
"Well, okay. Please come here to the police station to take the person back. By the way, don't forget to pay a fine of thirty thousand dollars." It was then that she realized that she was speaking to a police officer.
Therefore, Doris' curiosity had been ignited. "Who is it?"
"It’s Jay. He said you are his wife, aren't you? If not, then we might have called the wrong number," the policeman said.
To say she was shocked was an understatement. All this time, Jay was in the police station?
"Yes, yes, I am his wife. What did my husband do?" There were mixed emotions in her heart, and it was hard to tell whether she was happy or sad. But one thing was for sure; joy overpowered sorrow. No matter what kind of crime Jay had done, the most important thing was that he was alive.
"It's difficult to explain it through a phone call. You'd better come here with the fine." As soon as he finished his words, the policeman hung up the phone.
Regardless of the numbness she was feeling on her legs, Doris drove to the police station in a hurry.
