Piper showed up uninvited.
In the half hour waiting for Brittany, she had already figured out Brittany's achievements over the past six months. Impressive as they were, they still didn't seem to match up to Eltham's standards.
She pulled out the contract, ready to discuss a partnership.
Brittany was sharp in business, not showing any signs of weakness even when dealing with Piper.
After a bit of back-and-forth, Piper couldn't gain the upper hand and even seemed to be at a slight disadvantage.
Towards the end, Brittany, feeling unwell, excused herself and headed to the restroom.
Her morning sickness was particularly severe.
She had lost a considerable amount of weight in just a few days. If not for her company duties, she would have preferred to rest at home rather than stepping into the office.
Piper noticed something was off and followed, "Ms. Lynette, are you alright?"
Brittany, after vomiting to the point of bile, rinsed her mouth with some water and wiped the corners with a tissue, "Thanks for your concern, my stomach's been acting up these past few days."
She offered a weak smile.
Seeing that Brittany wasn't pretending, and since the contract discussions were almost done, Piper didn't want to stay any longer.
"Ms. Lynette, you should rest if you're not feeling well. Let's leave the contract discussion here for now. I'll take my leave."
After seeing Piper off to the elevator, Brittany felt a surge of nausea again.
She staggered into the restroom, throwing up until she felt faint.
She had been pregnant before, but the memories were a blur.
Only her body's instinctual reactions were unmistakable, the repeated vomiting was unbearable.
Finally, after emptying her stomach, she felt completely drained.
It took her about fifteen minutes to gather herself before returning to her desk.
If this continued, it might be the end of her.
After some thought, Brittany reached out to a private doctor, "I need something to ease the morning sickness, the sooner, the better."
After hanging up, she rested her head on the desk, enduring wave after wave of discomfort.
The private doctor was efficient, quickly coming up with several remedies for morning sickness and personally delivering them to the office.
