He was just feeling sorry for her, thinking she was all alone in the world, and he wanted to protect her.
That ain't love.
She didn't need that kind of feeling. Brittany choked back her disappointment and said, "I don't want to be your real wife. We'll stick to our original agreement and stay married in name only. It's better that way."
Isaac opened his mouth, seemingly wanting to say something more.
But Brittany beat him to it: "I'm hungry."
It was clear she didn't want to continue this conversation.
Isaac hesitated for a moment, walked over to the bedside, served her a bowl of soup, and said, "Take your time."
Brittany sipped the soup slowly, feeling a bit upset inside.
She had been fooling herself. Isaac didn't love her at all.
The reason he proposed to be a real husband and wife was firstly because Grace liked her and, secondly, maybe because they were already married and he didn't want a divorce, so he would rather settle with living with her.
But she didn't want to settle.
She had never been chosen decisively by anyone from her childhood until now. She was not content to live out her life in such a vague way.
Isaac's thin lips moved slightly. He knew Brittany didn't like his answer, but he was unable to comfort her.
When Hannah Chester got the news, she rushed over immediately.
Sensing the weird atmosphere, she made up an excuse to send Isaac away, then turned to Brittany and asked, "Bri, did you and Mr. Salter have a fight?"
Having finished her soup, Brittany felt much better. She said, "He wants to be a real husband and wife with me."
Hannah was stunned for a few seconds, then exclaimed joyfully, "You mean, Mr. Salter likes you?"
Wasn't that good news?
Brittany felt a bit bitter inside and shook her head, saying, "He doesn't like me."
"Then why does he want to be a real husband and wife with you?" Hannah couldn't figure out Isaac's thoughts. He always protected her and wanted to be a real husband and wife with her, but he didn't like her. What was it for?
"It might be because his grandma likes me and he doesn't dislike me." Brittany shrugged helplessly, saying, "Grace is his only family. He won't let her down."
Hannah clenched her fists.
