"Yeah, our boss' secretary has just arrived," Isaac blurted out, trying to prevent Brittany from knowing about his relationship with Loraine.
Brittany had her doubts, but she didn't want to seem childish to Isaac, so she let it slide.
"Okay."
"It's getting late. You should hit the hay. I have to step out tomorrow and can't hang out with you."
The auction was the following night. He had Nathan book a flight right after the auction concluded, hoping to jet back to Imperial City ASAP.
Brittany replied with a sullen "hmm" and whispered, "Zakky, come back soon."
Isaac's eyes sparkled with amusement, "Sure."
Loraine, catching his fib, had a smug look in her eyes.
It seemed Brittany was still in the dark about their relationship.
She still had a shot.
But before she could bask in her triumph, Isaac shot her a cold look, "Loraine, did you do that on purpose?"
Loraine bit her lip, "Zac, I didn't know you two were on a video call. I..."
"I don't care if you did it on purpose or not, I hope it's the last time."
Isaac drummed his fingers on the table, as if pounding Loraine's heart, "Don't test my last ounce of patience."
He knew Loraine's game.
He couldn't sever ties with the Field family, but he didn't want to give her any false hope either.
Loraine left, her face drained of color.
Just as Derek was heading out, he saw her state and hurried over, "Loraine, what's wrong?"
Tears streamed down Loraine's face, "What did I do wrong? Why would Zac rather have a shotgun wedding with someone else than consider me?"
"I was forced to leave the country three years ago... I've liked Zac for so many years, why won't he accept me?"
Loraine was sobbing uncontrollably.
Derek was both heartbroken and angry. He couldn't fathom Isaac's thought process!
Loraine was a catch, yet he chose a shotgun wedding with someone else!
