The maid had to stick to Daniel like glue in case he got lost. She didn't want to lose her job over that.
Daniel was head over heels for Brittany, and Brittany brushed all her worries aside to fully immerse herself in playing with Daniel.
This was Daniel's first visit to the amusement park. He was enamored by it and dragged Brittany around to try all the rides.
By halfway, the maid was already worn out.
"Daniel, you and Ms. Dustin carry on. I'll sit this one out."
Seeing the maid panting heavily, Daniel handed her a candy from his pocket and said, "Wait for me here. I'll be back when I'm done."
The maid accepted the candy, "Okay."
Watching their retreating figures, the maid had a moment of daze. Their bond was so strong, just like a real mother and son.
Daniel never even knew what his biological mother looked like before he lost her.
Brittany took Daniel on the Ferris wheel thrice.
By the third round, Daniel's excitement had faded. He leaned by the window, looking at the sky, his eyes filled with loss.
"What's wrong?" Brittany noticed his off mood and squatted down to ask.
With teary eyes, Daniel sobbed, "Dad lied to me."
Seeing him cry broke Brittany's heart. She wiped his tears and pecked his cheek, "What did your dad lie about?"
"Dad said if I made a wish on the Ferris wheel, Mom would come back."
He rode it three times, maybe wished three times, but his mom never came back.
Brittany's heart ached. She held Daniel tight, her voice choked up, "Daniel, if your mom is still alive, she will come back."
As long as someone was alive, they would come back.
But her Kyle Salter would never return.
He didn't even get a chance to see the world before he died on the operating table. The culprit behind it all was Isaac!
Daniel snuggled in her embrace, clutching her blouse, sobbing softly.
Tired from crying, Daniel fell asleep in Brittany's arms as they descended from the Ferris wheel.
He was still holding her hand tightly in his sleep. His desperate need for security made Brittany's heartache.
