Who helped her change her clothes?
William?
That was the first guess that popped into her head.
But she quickly dismissed it. William was always considerate; he would've asked someone else to help her change.
Brittany emerged from the bedroom to find William at the dining table.
"You're awake." William got up and said, "I had the maid help you bathe last night. Let's eat."
Brittany breathed a small sigh of relief and replied, "Okay."
Just as they started eating, there was a knock on the door.
"Stay put. I'll get it." William got up and opened the door, then stopped in his tracks.
"William, what's wrong?" Not hearing a response, Brittany thought there might be trouble. She quickly got up and went to the door.
There, face to face with Daniel.
"Mommy" Daniel pushed past William, ran to Brittany, and hugged her, "I've been looking for you."
Brittany was confused, “What?”
William, leaning against the wall, looked puzzled.
"Bri, who is this?"
Brittany glanced at Daniel, then back at William, saying, "William, it's a long story."
"Let's sit and talk." Looking slightly puzzled, William closed the door and went back to the dining table.
Daniel clung to Brittany. Knowing he hadn't had breakfast, she gave him a glass of milk and a sandwich. Then she turned to William and quickly explained the situation. "William, I'm sorry. I didn't know he would come. Are you okay?"
"I'm fine. Kids aren't that strong."
After hearing that Daniel had lost his mother and considered Brittany his mom, William felt a pang of pity. "Daniel, do you want some fried eggs?"
Daniel, munching on his sandwich, lit up at the mention of fried eggs, "Thank you. Can you make one for me and one for mom?"
William smiled and said, "Sure, I'll make you two."
