Isaac served the prepared meal and invited Brittany to sit down. Brittany got up, walked to the table and sat down carefully, avoiding her injured area.
Isaac prepared a cup of warm milk for her and put it in front of her. He then sat down and asked, "How did you get hurt?"
As soon as the words came out, Isaac felt regret. Technically they were husband and wife, but their relationship was far from intimate. Isaac wasn't the type to poke his nose into other people's business, so why did he ask?
Brittany paused, took a sip of the milk and said, "I fell accidentally."
Her eyes seemed a bit unnatural. It was clear she was lying.
Knowing she didn't want to tell the truth, Isaac didn't ask any more questions and said, "Let's eat."
The takeaway Hannah had ordered tasted good. Even after reheating, it didn't affect the taste. Brittany's appetite wasn't good; she barely touched the food and only had a bowl of porridge.
After dinner, Brittany, holding her waist, limped back to her room.
Isaac hesitated for a moment, then called out to Brittany, "Aren't you going to take a shower?"
Brittany looked exhausted.
"Not tonight, I'm not feeling well." Brittany shook her head.
She felt lucky enough to be safe and sound, let alone doing physical activities like taking a shower.
Brittany woke up from a good sleep and felt much better. She got up with difficulty, made a resume, and sent it to various jewelry design companies.
Just as she predicted, because of her bad record, she didn't receive any calls for three days.
Isaac came home an hour early and would apply medicine for her before dinner and prepare a warm cup of milk.
Brittany had a feeling that Isaac was coming home early for her.
Thinking of this, she asked, "Did you get a job? Why are you coming home so early these days?"
Isaac was holding a cup of coffee. The coffee beans he brought himself smelled high-end. She had asked before, and Isaac said they were a gift from a friend.
"I got a job. I'm new, so there's not much to do, so I came home early."
Isaac lifted his eyes and flipped through the latest financial magazine, "Aren't you going to work?"
He remembered that Brittany was working for the Dustin family, why hasn't he heard anything recently?
"I got fired."
Brittany leaned on the sofa, "I'm looking for a job!"
So it turns out he wasn't coming home early to take care of her, but because he was new at work and had nothing to do. As expected, she thought too much. A sense of disappointment flashed by, then she returned to normal.
"How about we go out for a meal once I find a new job?" Brittany asked, partly to celebrate and partly to thank Isaac for his care.
"Sure."
In the following days, Brittany actively sent out resumes but received no interview calls.
Instead, she got a call from Finn, "Brittany, I heard you're looking for a job. As long as you apologize to Patty, I can persuade your father to take you back."
The man on the other end of the phone sounded a bit pitiful, as if he was giving her a handout.
What's with this guy? First he hurt her, then he gave her hope?
"Finn, are you having fun doing this?"
Finn seemed to be provoked, "Brittany, don't be ungrateful." If it weren't for his respect for the Dustin family, he wouldn't have called Brittany at all.
"Thanks for your kindness, but it's really unnecessary."
"You-" Finn was very angry.
"You can think of me as being ungrateful." Brittany quickly hung up the phone and then blocked Finn's number.
Her waist injury had improved. She went downstairs to buy some ingredients and planned to make dinner to reward Isaac. While she was busy, the phone in the living room rang. Brittany dried her hands and answered the phone, "Hello?"
"Hello, is this Miss Brittany?"
"Yes, we are VelvetGlow Jewellery. Our director is very satisfied with your resume. Would you have time for an interview?"
Hearing this formal voice, Brittany was very happy, "Yes, I'd love to. Is tomorrow okay?"
"Okay, ten o'clock tomorrow morning."
