Isaac enlisted Nathan’s help to go through the neighborhood surveillance footage, but they found no useful leads.
Brittany joined him in the review. Her gaze landed on a pink luxury car on the screen. She paused the video. "Whose car is this?"
"It's Joie's." Isaac instantly recognized it. It was a car he had bought, intending to gift it to Brittany.
Unexpectedly, before he could even present the car, Brittany disappeared. The car ended up being stored at the old manor, and when Joie took a liking to it, Grace handed it over to her.
He had no interest in reclaiming a car that somebody else had used, so he never took it back.
"She does indeed have free access to the Salter Manor, but she rarely goes there lately." Isaac knew what Brittany was suspecting.
"I want a reasonable explanation."
Isaac's lips tightened as he realized how frustrated Brittany was feeling. He couldn't sit still. "It's getting late, so you should go rest. I'll take care of Daniel."
Brittany had been busy all day and was already at her limit.
If it weren't for Daniel being in the hospital, she would have collapsed long ago.
Without any fuss, Brittany returned to the hospital room and curled up on the couch to sleep.
Daniel was in a deep sleep.
He had suffered two head injuries in a row, resulting in a minor concussion. Although his life was not in danger, caution was still necessary.
Isaac had someone track Joie's whereabouts.
Back in the hospital room, Isaac saw Brittany curled up on the couch, sleeping soundly. Her previous hostility had finally eased, and she now looked vulnerable.
He moved to the couch. As his tall frame towered over Brittany, he gazed at her pale face, which was slightly misty under the moonlight filtering through the thin curtains. He crouched down to touch her.
Brittany's skin was soft and delicate. It was like fine ivory, irresistible to the touch.
He was considerate and didn’t apply any pressure. He just gently grazed her skin, afraid to wake her.
Brittany was only docile when she was asleep. This was the only time her defenses were down.
Once awake, she was like a hedgehog, raising her spikes to keep everyone at a distance.
After a while, Isaac covered her with a blanket. His cold eyes stared at Brittany, protecting her like a wolf lurking in the dark, inducing fear in anyone who dared to come close.
