Daniel's eyes were sparkling. "I fell all by myself."
Brittany stared at him. "Really?"
Daniel nodded seriously. "Really, Mom."
Brittany knew he wouldn't lie. She gently touched his forehead. "Okay, Mom believes you. You need to rest and not run around for a few days, okay?"
Daniel cupped Brittany's chin and planted a kiss on her cheek. "Okay."
Brittany took care of Daniel all night, and the next day, her assistant took her home to prepare for the final competition.
Isaac was worried about Daniel being in the hospital, so he had Nathan bring all the work to the hospital.
Daniel woke up at some point. He was dressed in a thin hospital gown as he stood in front of Isaac.
"How are you awake?" Isaac was startled. He closed his files, stood up, walked to him, picked him up, and put him on the bed. "Are you uncomfortable?"
The doctor said he should try to stay in bed as much as possible.
Daniel shook his head. His big, glowing eyes stared at Isaac for a long time without moving.
"Do you have something to say to Dad?"
Like father, like son. They had an unspoken connection.
Isaac sat by the bed. "Go ahead."
Daniel licked his lips. "Daddy, do you like Ms. Joie?"
Joie?
"No."
Isaac never expected his son to ask this kind of question. Probably because Joie had been around the Salter family for years, he just couldn’t help but ask this.
"I like your mom. I always have."
Daniel sat on the bed. His thin body was slightly trembling as he clenched the quilt, then, after a long time. "She pushed me."
"What?" Isaac's eyes changed dramatically. "Is this true?"
Daniel nodded heavily. "She pinched me and pushed me."
From the glow in his eyes, Isaac knew he was being sincere.
