Brittany had been anxious about Kari and Mila’s meeting.
After dinner, she just couldn't hold back anymore. She dialed Kari's number, "How did the meeting go?"
Kari sounded somewhat troubled, "Mila doesn't seem to like me much."
Kari recounted the evening's happenings in detail, "Brittany, I had no clue about Nathan's background."
Over the years, she had achieved considerable success in her career and had grown accustomed to receiving compliments. Kari relished this success but hadn't envisioned that, in Mila's presence, she wouldn't even have the right to speak.
"What did Nathan say?"
In the age-old mother-in-law and daughter-in-law relationship, the son was always the most crucial link.
"He's been very protective of me, and he refuses to go back to H city."
Kari was aware of Nathan's character, but she couldn’t guarantee how long Nathan would hold out due to the biological connections he shared with Mila.
"Nathan is on your side, so you stand a chance." Brittany said gravely. "Concentrate on your work and strive for self-improvement. Respect is earned through continuous efforts to better yourself."
"I understand."
After hanging up, Brittany heaved a sigh of relief.
She turned around and found Isaac standing behind her, unbeknownst to when he had arrived. "What's up?"
Isaac held a cup of warm milk, handing it to her, "I have to go on a business trip tomorrow morning. I'll be back in about a week."
The company had undertaken a new project, and he needed to make a personal visit.
Brittany nodded, "Have you packed your stuff?"
"Not yet." Isaac leaned in, embracing her, "I don't want to go."
They had just made up, and now he had to be away for a week. It was unbearable.
Brittany had never seen Isaac like this, "Zakky, work is important."
He had always been a workaholic. Since when had he started neglecting work just to be with her?
Isaac gently nibbled her earlobe, his large hand caressing her waist, "You're the most important."
He seldom talked sweetly, and this one sentence instantly melted Brittany's heart.
"Have a good trip. If I have time over the weekend, I'll come to see you."
