She caught sight of the middle-aged woman sitting by the window, knitting a scarf. Tears welled up in her eyes as she approached.
Grace was looking much better, popping a ton of anti-rejection meds every day, with no obvious side effects. She was tightly controlled, only allowed to see Allison once a week.
"Allison."
"Mom, how have you been feeling lately?"
"I'm fine." She caressed Allison's face, "You've been through so much."
Allison put her face against her mother's cheek, "Mom, I promise I'll get you out of here."
"Don't worry about me, they won't hurt me. Don't quarrel with Mrs. Flanagan and Ms. Flanagan, don't be so stubborn, learn to compromise."
"I understand, mom."
Looking at Grace's pale and weak figure, Allison felt her heart aching.
Grace had lost a lot of weight after surgery, but overall, she was in pretty good spirits.
Something suddenly occurred to Allison, "Mom, what's your blood type?"
Grace was taken aback, her hands stopped moving.
"I forgot. I'm getting old, I forget things."
Allison was making the bed and didn't notice the change in Grace's expression, as if she was avoiding something.
Allison mumbled to herself, "It's weird, mine didn’t match your blood type…"
"Allison." Grace cut her off, pulling her hand to sit next to her on the bed. She tenderly combed Allison's hair behind her ear, "You only visit so rarely, let's just chat."
"Okay." Allison agreed, picking up an apple to peel.
