Suddenly, someone stood up and announced, “I'm Brook's supervisor.”

At the sound of that voice, Brook exclaimed, “Oh, hey sir!”

“Brook, how come you're hanging out with Mr. Brummett?” The guy asked.

Marian's face turned as pale as a sheet. She stared at the sporty-dressed guy in front of her and realized with a start that this young fella actually knew Brook's boss. She felt dizzy and was just about to hit the floor when Brook caught her, “Mom!”

Grace looked at Jason in surprise, then turned to Allison, “Allie, is this your friend?”

Allison hadn't expected Jason to pull such a loud card, but hey, it knocked the wind out of Marian's sails, didn't it?

“Yeah, he's my friend.” She replied, then added, “We were college pals.”

Jason looked at Brook, then turned to Marian, “You two are far from a match. Allison's way out of your league, got it?”

Marian took a deep breath, leaning on the booth, “Sorry, we made a mistake. Please don't be mad.”

Allison took Grace's hand and whispered, “Mom, let's bounce.”

Grace was done as well. She'd brought her daughter here to find a boyfriend, Ana raved about Brook, and she wanted her daughter to find someone ASAP. But now, things were way off from what she'd pictured. She couldn't stick around, “Alright, let's roll.”
