Penelope's phone gave off a faint buzz from within her bag. She glanced down and saw a text from Pete, asking her to call him back. She looked up at the man sitting across from her at the dining table. "Lucian, I'm going to use the restroom."

She stood up. And since she was 8 months pregnant, she couldn't move very well, she had to walk out of the booth slowly, while holding on to her back, then took out her cell phone and went into the restroom.

"What's up, Pete? I'm having dinner with Lucian," Penelope sounded a bit peeved.

Even though she and Pete had history and the baby she was carrying was his, she was set to become the lady of the Lindberg family, so she wanted to keep her distance from Pete. But sometimes, she had to rely on Pete to keep her secret, which scared her a little.

Penelope could hear the sounds of Pete's card game and the noise in the background over the phone. She reluctantly said, "Pete, it's really tough for me to get out at night since my mom's at home and she keeps a close eye on me."

"How about I swing by then? Penelope, don't you miss me? That Lucian guy doesn't lay a finger on you. I've been the one keeping you company these past few months."

Penelope's cheeks blushed at Pete's blunt remark over the phone. "Pete, my mom's at home. If she finds out..."

"What's there to be scared of? The baby inside you is mine."

"I'll be waiting at home then..."
