“Nathalie, don’t you think it’s odd that Allison’s team has been silent for so long?” Penelope mused, and her thoughts were consumed by the desire to see Allison crumble. “Do you think they’re devising some kind of PR strategy for her?”
Nathalie shrugged. “Clearing her name won’t be easy. But I’ve heard her agent is a real shark.”
Penelope furrowed her brow. “You don’t think they could spin this on me, do you? Try to claim I spread those photos?”
Nathalie chuckled. “Oh, Penelope, you’ve got nothing to worry about. You’re the future daughter-in-law of the Lindbergs, heiress to the Flanagan fortune. Who would believe you’d stoop to such levels? That’s a stunt only a desperate woman like Allison would pull. And even if she tries to pin it on you, what proof would she have?”
Relief washed over Penelope as she examined the photos. Each one was carefully chosen to only feature her profile, which cleverly disguised any distinguishing features she shared with Allison. No one could possibly link them back to her.
Feeling lighter, she turned to Nathalie. “I have a little something for you.” She reached into her closet and pulled out a luxury designer bag. “It’s a limited edition. Only two exist in all of Northfield. I want you to have it.”
Nathalie’s eyes lit up as she eagerly accepted the gift. “Penelope, we’re friends. I’d do anything for you.”
Despite her reassurances, her gaze never left the bag. Although Nathalie came from a well-to-do family, her mother’s humble background meant she wasn’t accustomed to such high-end fashion.
Penelope winced slightly at the loss of her beloved accessory, but if it bought Nathalie’s silence, it was a worthwhile sacrifice.
Nathalie was aware of the woman in the photos. It was Penelope. She was familiar with Penelope’s scandalous past, including her involvement with a man named Robbie. Nathalie was no stranger to a wild lifestyle, but Penelope had always been the more reckless of the two. The dazed look in Penelope’s eyes suggested she was under the influence, and had fun with two men.
Despite her resentment towards Penelope, Nathalie couldn’t afford to burn bridges with someone who was now connected to the influential Lindberg family.
“I have an idea that could ruin Allison’s reputation for good,” Nathalie proposed, cradling the designer bag in her arms. “It involves her mother, Grace.”
Penelope’s eyes narrowed. “Grace? Are you suggesting we let her think the woman in those photos is Allison? Cause a rift between them?”
“No.” Nathalie shook her head. “We make Grace cause a scene at Epic Entertainment. We can tip off the media to be there, ready to capture it all. Everyone will know that Allison is the woman in those photos - a prostitute selling herself for money. She’ll have no way to explain it.”
