How could Alaric possibly listen to Angelina? After all the struggle, he had finally gotten his hands on the family registry document. Just one step out the door, and he could marry Hertha, start his own little family, living happily ever after with his wife and kids!
Alaric broke into a run from his brisk walk, his heart pounding with nervous excitement. If he had wings, he'd fly straight to Hertha, dragging her to get their marriage license.
"Where do you think you're running off to, you little rascal!" Angelina saw Alaric bolting and panicked, rushing after him.
Alaric didn't look back, his long legs carrying him swiftly towards freedom. Just a bit further, and he'd escape Angelina's dictations for good.
Seeing she couldn't catch up, Angelina desperately called out to the maid sweeping at the door, "Iris, close the door! Don't let Alaric out!"
Iris, always obedient to Angelina who paid her wages, immediately dropped her broom and rushed to lock the door.
"Iris, what are you doing? Move!" Alaric reached the door, yanking Iris aside in his attempt to escape.
Just as the door cracked open and Alaric prepared to burst out, the family registry document was snatched from his grasp.
Instinctively reaching to grab it back, Alaric saw Angelina hide it behind her, stepping back to avoid his reach, panting, "Alaric, stop! Or I swear, I'll tear this document to shreds!"
Alaric froze, glaring at Angelina with a serious and stormy expression, "I'm a Falconer too, aren't I? I have every right to use that document!"
"Don't think I don't know what you're planning with it!" Angelina, veins throbbing with anger, stared at Alaric, "You're planning to marry Hertha with it, aren't you?"
