The Billionaire’s Secret Quartet novel Chapter 1840

The moment Georgia heard that first word from Alaric, her heart skipped a beat, knowing it was him. She had been eagerly anticipating this moment, finally getting to meet Alaric face-to-face.

But her excitement quickly turned to disappointment when his first concern was for Hertha, not even his own child. The anticipation that filled Georgia's heart was replaced with an aching void upon hearing Alaric's words. She felt dizzy with anger, immediately turning her frustration towards Hertha.

No matter what was said, Georgia's primary mission became tarnishing Hertha's reputation in front of Alaric.

Hertha, faced with Georgia's accusations, remained surprisingly calm. "Look, in the hustle and bustle of the mall, people bump into each other all the time. I didn't even see who was behind me. It was an accident, caused by the crowd pushing. I immediately suggested taking your child to the hospital and offered to cover all expenses, but you refused, insisting on calling Alaric instead. What do you expect him to do? He's not a doctor," Hertha explained with a serene tone that took Georgia by surprise.

Georgia was worried that Alaric might believe Hertha over her, potentially ruining her plans to embarrass her. She quickly turned to her son, her expression a mix of eagerness and agitation, "Alar, tell us, did she bump into you on purpose, or was it just an accident?"

The little boy, intimidated by the question, sought refuge in Georgia's embrace without answering.

Georgia's voice grew more urgent, and slightly harsher, as she pressed on, "Alar, don't be afraid. He's your dad, and he'll stand up for you. Just tell the truth."

Hertha, feeling uncomfortable with the pressure Georgia was putting on the child, was about to say something when she realized the implication of Georgia's words – Alaric was being acknowledged as the father.

Before she could dwell on Georgia's coercion, Hertha's attention shifted to Alaric, curious about his reaction. Noticing his guilty demeanor and the way he avoided her gaze, Hertha immediately sensed something.

Hoping against hope, she asked Alaric, "The paternity test results are in, aren't they?"

She had been avoiding Alaric, trying not to dwell on their complicated relationship, which meant she never inquired about the paternity test they had supposedly taken.

Despite Alaric's evasive response, Hertha saw the truth in his eyes. Any sliver of hope she had harbored vanished, leaving her with a bitter laugh, a mix of self-mockery and sorrow, "I see, I understand now."
