To Callum's utter disbelief, Lysander rose to the occasion when it mattered most!
His entire scheme dissolved into thin air the moment Lysander stood up, as if even the heavens had turned against him!
By the time the police had him in cuffs, Callum's heart had sunk into despair, all fight drained from him. Now, he could truly empathize with how Leopold must have felt, making his heart heavier with each passing moment. He realized the extent of agony Leopold had endured. And yet, he was powerless to ease any of Leopold's pain, left only to await the news of his passing.
As the police led Callum away, Thalassa's heart, which had been tight with anxiety, finally began to relax a bit. She let go of Lysander, her gaze shifting towards the door. Watching Callum, handcuffed and escorted by two officers, his silhouette a blend of loneliness and agony, tightened her chest once again. For a moment, she found it hard to breathe, her heart constricted as if by ropes.
How had someone so kind and joyful turned into this? If only they could return to how things were when they first met.
Lost in thought, Thalassa's face tingled under the rough caress of a hand, pulling her back to reality. She looked up to see Lysander wiping away her tears, his handsome face etched with concern. His deep, soothing voice reassured her, "It's over now..."
He adjusted the jacket he had draped over her shoulders, wrapping her slender frame a bit more securely. The memory of Callum tearing at her clothes sent a surge of rage through Lysander. Had Callum still been there, no amount of punches would have sufficed to quell his fury.
Realizing her clothes were torn, Thalassa felt utterly mortified. Without Lysander's jacket, she couldn't imagine how pitiful she'd look. She pulled the jacket closer, her tear-filled eyes meeting Lysander's. In that moment, he was her pillar of strength, enveloping her in a sense of security that steadied her trembling body. She tried to smile, to show him she was alright.
But the words of reassurance died on her lips. She wanted to comfort Lysander, to tell him she was fine, but the truth was she wasn't. The fear and sorrow were real, especially after Callum's mention of Leopold. Everything Callum had done was to make up for Leopold's regrets. Thinking of Leopold, of the joyful times they had shared, and how that bright, optimistic young man met such a tragic end, Thalassa felt a pang of sorrow.
"Let's go. Can you stand?" Lysander asked, offering his hands to help her up.
Snapping back to the present, Thalassa quickly stood, insisting on supporting Lysander instead. "I've got you, how's your leg...?"
Her eyes darted to his legs, concerned. But there he was, standing firm, his legs strong and supportive as ever. Beside her, his towering presence seemed to shield her from the world.
The Lysander she knew, strong and imposing, was back! In the chaos earlier, Thalassa had noticed Lysander standing, but hadn't fully registered it. Now, seeing him standing strong before her, her sorrow turned to overwhelming gratitude, tears brimming in her eyes.
"Lysander, you're really standing!" Her words were a mix of excitement and astonishment.
