Georgia found herself on the receiving end of Alaric and Hertha's bewildered and shocked stares. She immediately realized she'd put her foot in it. As Hertha's interrogation bore down on her, Georgia felt a knot of anxiety in her stomach, her feet inching backward in retreat.
"I, I didn't say anything," Georgia stammered, wishing she could take back her words. But once words are out, they're like spilled milk—impossible to gather up again. Didn't she understand such a simple truth?
"Really, Georgia? You should know, it's easy for us to take you to the hospital for checks—to see if you've been pregnant before or if you're still pure," Hertha said, arms crossed as she advanced step by step towards Georgia.
Hertha's imposing approach made Georgia step back further; she'd never seen Hertha wield such authority. It was as if Hertha was the untouchable heiress, backed by unshakeable confidence and powerful support. And Georgia? She felt like a commoner, ignorant and insignificant.
Backed into a corner, Georgia spat out defiantly, "You wouldn't dare! If you lay a finger on me, I'll call the cops on you in a heartbeat!"
"Go ahead, call them. It's about time we talk to the cops about your so-called doctor relative who's been fabricating medical reports. That's a crime, you know," Hertha retorted, unfazed by Georgia's threat.
Georgia looked desperately at Alaric, "Alaric, our families have business ties. Are you really going to let her bully me like this? If our families cut ties, yours stands to lose a lot!"
Her eyes pleaded for help, but her words were laced with arrogance. She had used this tactic before, pressuring Alaric into submission. She thought it would work again.
But what she didn't realize was Alaric had had enough of her threats. He had once thought Hertha was out of reach, married to Spencer, and that he and Georgia, having been intimate and pushed together by their families, should give their arranged engagement a chance. Maybe they could make it work.
But Georgia's escalating demands had pushed him to his limit. Fed up, Alaric cut ties with the Falconer family to free himself from the engagement.
"I have no ties with the Falconer family anymore. Their losses are none of my concern. I'm Hertha's fiancé now, and I only listen to her. If she wants me to drive you to the hospital for a check-up, I won't hesitate," Alaric said, his resolve crystal clear.
Georgia's arrogance crumbled at his words.
Alaric added, "You better come clean about what happened three years ago. You have five minutes to gather your thoughts. After that, we're taking action and you're off to the hospital for a check-up."
He cracked his knuckles, signaling he was ready to act on his word. Understanding Hertha's motives fully now, Alaric realized she was seeking the truth about that night three years ago. Despite his discomfort with Hertha's blunt approach, Alaric knew it was necessary.
