Otherwise, one day, Thalassa would turn her back on him with the same cold indifference!
Burdened with bias and bitterness, Rosalind aimed to smear Thalassa’s name in front of Lysander, hoping to tarnish Thalassa's image in his eyes. But she was clueless about how childish and laughable her attempts appeared to Lysander. Lysander and Thalassa had weathered storms together to find their slice of happiness. He knew Thalassa inside out; how could he doubt her over Rosalind’s petty words? Instead, Rosalind’s desperate tries to discredit Thalassa only fueled his disdain.
“Ms. Whitman, you think you can slander my wife and get away with it? Apologize to her now!” Lysander’s eyes were sharp as daggers, cutting right through Rosalind’s heart. His tone was firm and icy, leaving no room for negotiation but demanding compliance.
Rosalind paled, “I…”
His gaze frightened her, making her step back, but Lysander’s presence was too overpowering, filling the room with an inescapable pressure. Seeking help, Rosalind glanced towards Joshua.
Catching the signal, Joshua chuckled, “Rosalind was just speaking out of turn, she didn’t mean it.”
He was trying to cover for Rosalind. But his words were like pouring salt on Thalassa’s already wounded heart. See, no matter what happens, Joshua’s first instinct was to shield his darling daughter. Even though Rosalind was the one who disrespected Thalassa first, Joshua wasn’t looking to defend Thalassa but to make excuses for Rosalind! One second he felt guilty for failing Thalassa, and the next, he instinctively smothered Rosalind with all his love, sidelining Thalassa.
Thalassa’s brows furrowed, suppressing the discomfort rising inside her. Noticing Thalassa’s unease, Lysander grasped her hand in his, his voice cold as he continued.
“We’re all adults here. You should know better than to let your mouth run wild. You’ll face the consequences one way or another! Apologize, or crawl out of here, your choice!”
As Lysander finished, his piercing gaze shifted toward the door. Rosalind’s eyes followed, only to see two imposing bouncers already positioned at the entrance, their stares menacing. Clearly, they were ready to enforce her departure. And there, beside one bouncer, stood Lysander’s right-hand man, David, awaiting her decision with an expectant look.
The moment Rosalind’s eyes met David’s, she felt utterly humiliated, her face a canvas of awkwardness and shame. Had David not been there, her embarrassment might have been somewhat bearable. In those few seconds, Rosalind’s emotions churned, her face flushing with embarrassment. She knew even her father couldn’t save her now.
After a couple of deep breaths, she lowered her head, murmuring, “I’m sorry.”
“What was that? Louder, I didn’t catch that!” Lysander barked.
Startled, Rosalind shivered, lifted her head to face Thalassa, took a deep breath, and continued, “I’m sorry, I shouldn’t have said what I did. It was stupid of me. Please don’t stoop to my level of foolishness.”
