"If you drink with that man and end up at a hotel, do you think your reputation will still remain clean?" Alaric's stunning eyes bore into her. There was a hint of sternness under his teasing tone.
Hertha's heart skipped a beat as it dawned on her, "You're saying...the man earlier drugged the drinks?"
"You're as bright as a blackened light bulb!" It took him explaining it so explicitly for her to get it!
Alaric shot her a look of disdain and turned to leave.
Hertha was still in shock and her heart was pounding with dread. If it wasn't for Alaric, she would have been done for.
Seeing Alaric walking away, she rushed forward to grab his hand.
"Let go!" Alaric shook her off.
Hertha's previously fierce expression turned into that of a starstruck fan. She no longer controlled the flutter in her heart and let her yearning for him shine through.
"Alaric, I was mean to you earlier. I'm sorry, it was my fault. Please don't be mad at me."
She weakly held onto one of his fingers and swayed it gently. She looked coquettish but she was mostly worried that he would ignore her.
"I'm not your boyfriend. I couldn't care less about being mad." Alaric pulled his finger away from her.
"I'm sorry, okay? I was too harsh on you earlier. If it wasn't for you today, I would have ended up being some old man's trophy or someone's pawn. Can I have a chance to thank you, please?"
Alaric glanced at her, "And how do you plan on thanking me?"
"Uhm, what do you like?" Hertha asked after some thought.
Before Alaric could answer, her eyes lit up as she thought of something. Holding back a smile, she said, "You're a ladies’ man, right? I'm not wrong, am I?"
