"Let's just not," she sighed, the ambiguity of a late-night movie marathon already pushing the envelope.
"Come on! It's just a movie. I'm not making any moves," Calvin spread his hands wide in defense, "We're roommates. This living room? Fair game for you, me, and upstairs Grace too. You play your movie, I watch. All fair and square."
"I'll just watch something on my phone in my room, then," she decided, turning to leave.
Calvin, visibly annoyed, retorted, "That's hitting below the belt!"
"I just don't want to send you the wrong signals," Felicity's relationship with Calvin had always been straightforward, "From the start, moving in with a guy was about feeling safe, not about... anything else."
That was the truth then, and even more so now.
"I get it! We're playing the long game here! Who knows, maybe one day you'll see the light," Calvin raised his hand as if taking an oath, "Everything I do, it's not about expecting something in return. If one day you're into it, great; if not, we're still friends. It's give and take, right?"
Calvin, despite his laid-back attitude, often leaned on Felicity for help with the nitty-gritty details of work, like analyzing data.
So, until Calvin had openly expressed his feelings, Felicity had assumed their relationship was purely that of supportive roommates.
But once certain words are spoken, things inevitably change.
On her flight back, she'd even considered finding a new place.
Still...
Calvin hadn't done anything wrong. It felt harsh to just up and leave without a good reason.
He'd definitely be hurt.
Seeing Felicity silent, Calvin glanced at her, then out the door, "Hey, isn't your brother... he's not still out there, is he?"
"He's gone."
"How do you know? Did you check?"
