Kane was about to go find Leopold, to come clean about the fib he'd told. He couldn't bear the thought of Leopold being disappointed in him. After William had left, he made his way to Leopold's room.
"Dad," he called out softly.
Leopold was lounging on the couch with a cup of coffee, flipping through a magazine, "What's up, Kane?"
"You know William is Liam," Kane said as he sat down beside him.
"Yes," Leopold nodded, "You knew all along, didn't you?"
"Yeah," Kane admitted, "Actually, I found out during the international chess tournament in Hawaii. The bodyguard got us mixed up and took William instead of me. He ended up flying to Elysium with you, while Mom took me back to their place in Goldstone."
Leopold felt a jolt. His son and William had been switched, and he'd even brought William back home without noticing.
"So, out of the whole family, I was the only one left in the dark, with the three of you pulling one over on me."
With a sheepish shrug, Kane said, "Dad, I didn't mean to trick you. I promised William I'd keep his secret. I couldn't break my word. I've hinted at it so many times, that William is Liam. You just never caught on."
Leopold was speechless. They were talking about reincarnation, but could it really be the same?
"No more secrets from now on, okay?"
"Okay," Kane nodded, "Dad, are you happy? Liam is still with us."
"Of course, I'm happy," Leopold said, ruffling his hair, "Our family is finally truly together again."
"You don't have to be sad about Liam anymore," Kane said with a wide grin, showing off a row of pearly whites.
