She murmured, "Isn't it odd, Leo, that Elowen hasn't come to talk to you?"
Leopold squeezed a few words out from his tight lips, "Are you hoping she would?"
She shook her head, "Not at all, just a simple curiosity. I'm afraid she's up to something."
Leopold wished she would be, he was waiting for it.
Swirling his whiskey in his glass, he retorted coldly, "No need to bother."
Evelyn's gaze skimmed over Aurelia's face, a dark chill flashing in her eyes. "Aurelia and Elowen are becoming quite close. To anyone who doesn't know better, they might even think they're best friends. If not for me, they wouldn't even be associating, would they?"
The implication was clear, Aurelia and Elowen were joining forces against her. Leopold's eyes darkened, storm clouds gathering.
That woman was always going against his wishes, never obedient.
He threw his head back and downed his whiskey in one gulp. "You don't need to worry."
Evelyn smiled sweetly. She trusted him to protect her, he always had her back.
Aurelia dared not meet Leopold's gaze, she was afraid of his icy stare.
He never showed her any warmth.
Also, she didn't want to see his sweet exchanges with Evelyn, it was hard on her eyes!
Sipping her juice, she shifted her gaze to the other side of the party, past the crowd, to a slightly familiar face, "Miss Elowen, is that Sheryl, your cousin's wife?"
Elowen followed her gaze, and Arnold and Avery turned their heads as well.
"That's her alright, didn't expect her to show up. She hasn't attended these parties in ages."
"Wow, I've been a fan of her since I was a kid." Avery couldn't contain his excitement.
Arnold stood up, "Shall we go say hello?"
Avery nodded and got up, but Aurelia held him back, "Arno, you and Miss Elowen go ahead. We'll stay put."
