Aurelia firmly believed that he would be a good husband, yet, she was unsure if there was a woman in the world who could soothe his restless heart.
After all, he was like the wind, free-spirited and untamed.
"What if you end up marrying a woman you do not love?" Elowen unexpectedly blurted out.
Arnold fell silent. It was impossible for him to be faithful to a woman he held no affection for!
He took a small swig of his beer, his eyebrows furrowing slightly, "Why would I marry a woman I do not love?"
Elowen cast her gaze downward, she realized that if she could not make Leopold fall in love with her, her life would be more miserable than her aunt. There would always be women around him.
Aurelia let out a soft sigh, "Marriage must be founded on love. A loveless marriage will never bring happiness."
Elowen finished her drink, venting her frustration and depression, "Why doesn't Leopold like me? He used to like Megan, now he likes Evelyn. What do they have that I lack?"
"Perhaps it's because you love him too much." Aurelia refilled her glass with juice, trying to prevent her from getting drunk, "You are too good to him, and that might prevent him from cherishing you."
Her words hit the nail on the head.
Elowen nodded, "You're right, my mentor said the same thing. That's why I need to change and show him that I am way better than Evelyn and Megan."
As a man, Arnold knew she was wasting her energy, but he didn't want to discourage her. Let her keep trying! The more Leopold got entangled with them, the further Aurelia would distance herself from Leopold. And that was exactly what he wanted.
Aurelia picked up a small cupcake, took a bite, and her eyes unintentionally fell on Leopold. She noticed that Sheryl had taken a seat next to him.
Sheryl seized the opportunity when Evelyn had excused herself to the restroom.
"Leopold, you're not really thinking about breaking off your engagement with Elowen to be with Evelyn, are you?"
Leopold remained silent.
