Leopold's deep eyes flickered slightly as if he'd gleaned some insight from her words.
The corner of Megan’s mouth twitched. From then on, the only woman allowed near Leopold would be her. Any woman who dared to challenge her would pay the ultimate price.
"Aurelia, you need to understand," she asserted, "in a relationship, the one not being loved is the third wheel. Right now, you're the other woman between me and Leopold."
She turned to Leopold and said sweetly, "Leopold, tell her you'll only love me from now on, and I'll be the only woman in your life."
Leopold felt disgust rising in his throat. He wanted nothing but to kick Megan out of the window and watch her shatter against the pavement below.
"Enough," he snapped, "this is an office, not a place for personal affairs."
He turned to Aurelia. "I'll have my lawyer draft a new divorce agreement. You'd better sign it as fast as you can. I'm not fond of dragging things out."
Aurelia swallowed hard. "Leopold, don't forget one thing. The head of the Stirling family breaking the family rules will get severe punishment. And the Stirling family will never accept your mistress. Even if you marry secretly, she'll never become a Mrs. Stirling. Take a lesson from the mistakes of your older generation." Her words were not only for him but for Megan as well.
A nerve in Megan's face twitched violently. She knew all well about the feud between Magnolia and Jessica. The Stirling family rules were strict. While the men were allowed to marry more than one wife, the first wife always held a protected status.
In the Stirling family, the first wife held a high position, which was higher than any second wife, and divorce without due cause was not permitted.
To date, no head of the Stirling family had managed to divorce successfully, nor had any mistress ascended to the position of family matriarch.
If she wanted to ascend, she had to win Leopold's approval and the strong support of the family matriarch.
