"Megan, I've heard the Stirlings doesn't think much of you as a daughter-in-law. They didn't even allow you to visit them during Christmas. You've been treated unfairly, haven't you?" Callie tenderly asked, her heart aching.
Megan forced a smile, "It's just some relatives causing a ruckus. They're upset that Leopold divorced Aurelia without following the Stirling family traditions. But it's okay, as long as Leopold is good to me. Eventually, I'll become the matriarch of the Stirling family and change all those outdated rules."
Evelyn sauntered down the stairs, "Megan, you've been married to Leopold for a short time and he's already got a mistress who's pregnant. Your term seems terribly short, doesn't it?"
Megan's eyes flashed with anger, feeling Evelyn was deliberately trying to embarrass her.
"Those are just rumors. Leopold spends every day with me, where would he find time for a mistress?"
Evelyn sank into the couch, pouring herself a cup of coffee, "Leopold's affair was confirmed by Aurelia herself. How could it be false?"
Callie quickly interjected, "Megan, you can't underestimate those home wreckers. You can't be complacent."
Evelyn chuckled, "Mom, what are you worried about? Didn't Megan herself climb her way to Leopold's side? Isn't that why the Stirling family looks down on her?"
Callie shot her a glare ans snapped, "You useless girl, you let the golden goose slip from your grasp, and now you're kicking your sister when she's down. There are plenty of seductresses around Leopold. If Megan didn't fight for her position, how could she become his wife and uphold our family's honor? She's done far better than you."
Evelyn felt a deep sting at her mother's rebuke.
Ever since childhood, her parents always favored Megan. She felt like the spare, and nothing had changed.
Megan took the opportunity to add salt to Evelyn's wounds, "Evelyn, Leopold loves me. No one can replace me in his heart. I heard that you tried to imitate me to gain his favor, is that true?"
Evelyn gritted her teeth. Leopold was supposed to love her. If it weren't for Megan's backstabbing and slander, he wouldn't have shifted his attention to Megan.
She took a deep breath, picked up her coffee, and headed upstairs.
As soon as she could dig up Megan's dirty secrets from the past six years, she'll make Megan pay dearly.
