Aurelia and Leopold sat on a park bench near the playground, watching children chase each other in the carefree way that only the young seem to possess.
Leopold's gaze lingered on the mix of toddlers and preteens, his eyes darkening slightly with thought.
"Have you noticed anything different about William lately?" he asked.
"Different? How?" Aurelia's heart skipped a beat, fearing he might have picked up on something.
Leopold couldn't quite put his finger on it, but it was more of a gut feeling.
"He seems more mature than before."
"He's growing up, Leopold. Prodigy kids are always a bit ahead of the growing curve. Weren't you the same at his age?"
A hint of a smile played at the corner of Leopold's mouth. "Has he been spending much time at the hotel with Skyler?"
Aurelia nodded. "He's been learning chemistry from Skyler. When he gets home, he locks himself in his room to experiment."
Leopold stroked his chin nonchalantly. "What kind of experiments?"
"I'm not sure," Aurelia admitted with a sheepish smile. "Chemistry was never my strong suit. And he's just a kid. He couldn't be doing anything dangerous. The bodyguards are always nearby."
Just then, one of the bodyguards returned. Leopold had tasked him with discreetly following a family of four that had argued earlier.
They had left unscathed.
"The people form the AK Group didn't seem to have followed Skyler today."
"That's not necessarily true." Leopold's voice was grave.
Aurelia gave him a meaningful look, her eyes conveying a depth of understanding.
"You don't think those two kids who got into a fight were cursed, do you? The AK Group decided to spare the family but punish the campus bullies?"
"People who've got bullied despise it more than anything." Leopold pondered deeply.
