Jewel sighed, her voice tinged with impatience, “If it isn't Lana, it would be another woman trying to lure Leopold in. But seriously, Megan, can you not see the heat we’re under right now? The cops are on high alert. We’d better lay low until this whole thing blows over.”
Megan glared at her with venom in her eyes. “Are you here to help me or just to get in my way?”
“I’m here to ensure you take your rightful place as the lady of the Stirling household,” Jewel replied coolly. “Unfortunately, you’re not even close to crossing that threshold yet, let alone being the lady. Stop wasting your time on petty jealousies with those girls and focus on winning over Jessica. That’s your ticket in.”
Megan had always been fiercely competitive, refusing to be outdone by anyone.
That’s why she couldn’t stand the thought of Leopold treating any other woman better than he treated her.
She craved his undivided affection, to be the jewel in his crown, the belle of Elysium.
“Then you need to figure out how to keep Leopold’s attention on me and away from Aurelia and those other temptresses,” Megan demanded. “Best find a powerful sorcerer, put him under a love spell, so he can't leave me.”
Jewel’s lips twisted into a wry smile. “If you’re relying on tricks and spells, it just shows you lack confidence in yourself. Those love spells can backfire, you know. Black magic always has a price, and when it comes to collect, it’s not a pretty sight.”
“I don’t care!” Megan snapped. “I just want Leopold to be hopelessly devoted to me. It drives me insane seeing him cozy up to other women. You have to make him mine, heart and soul.”
Jewel shrugged nonchalantly. “I’ll do what I can but, in the end, it’s up to you.”
