"I want a woman who is totally devoted to me, no matter what I do or how I treat her," he announced, "She should be at my beck and call, selflessly dedicated. If you can’t cut it, don’t dream of becoming my wife. Just stay content as a mistress. I know exactly what you're up to. Once the baby is born, I'll make it clear to the Stirling family that the child won't have any claim to the inheritance. As long as it's your offspring, legitimate or not, they can kiss any dreams of succession goodbye."
His words struck Megan like a bolt out of the blue, shattering her composure and leaving her head spinning, tears welling in her eyes, every nerve in her body twitching in distress.
She felt like an onion, layers being mercilessly peeled away to reveal the dark heart within.
"Why are you doing this to me? You're going to regret this decision," she said, her voice a mixture of anger and desperation.
"The only one who'll be filled with regret is you," Leopold shot back coldly, "counting on AK Group as your backup plan. Well, think again."
With that, Leopold turned on his heel and disappeared into his room, leaving Megan standing there, petrified, her lips drained of color.
Lana returned, her walk sinuous, heading straight for Leopold's door.
Seeing Megan, she couldn't resist a snide chuckle, "Looks like someone got the cold shoulder. How pitiful."
Megan gritted her teeth, "Shut your trap. I just came from Leopold's room, about to head back to mine. We're doing great, you know. He was just giving our baby some prenatal stimulation."
"Oh?" Lana raised an eyebrow, her tone dripping with fake surprise, "Well, you better go get some rest. Tonight, I'll be the one keeping Leopold company. You don't need to worry about a thing."
She flashed her room key card, about to swipe it, and Megan's eyes bulged in disbelief.
"How do you have a key card to Leopold's room?"
