The CEO's Unplanned Heir novel Chapter 700

Aurelia's expression was as indifferent, "You're overthinking it, Megan. We just happened upon a Renaissance fair last night, and there was a booth with some really pretty vintage dresses. I bought one because it caught my eye. What does his affection have to do with how I dress? Beauty is in the eye of the beholder. If he truly likes you, even without a stitch of makeup, he'll think you're stunning. But if he doesn't care for you, no matter how dolled up you get, you're just an ordinary person in the crowd to him."

Her words hit Megan like a dagger to the heart.

"Leopold adores me, and that's for sure. So even when I don't dress up, he thinks I'm the belle of the ball. But you, the jilted ex, even dressed to the nines, he'd still see you as nothing more than a sour grape."

"What are you worried about then?" Aurelia taunted, rendering Megan speechless, her face flushing in embarrassment.

"Aurelia, she's just green with envy. It's written all over her face," Lana chimed in as she approached, "A woman who clawed her way up by foul means must be feeling pretty insecure."

Hearing this, Aurelia wondered if Lana was privy to some secret. It seemed her relationship with Leopold was more than just a casual fling.

"Envy's an ugly thing," Aurelia lectured as she fanned herself before stepping into her car, "What's meant to be will come your way, and what's not, won't. You can't force sweetness from a picked-too-soon apple."

Megan wanted to slam the bottle of antimicrobials in her hand so that she would be re-consumed by superbugs and die of organ failure throughout her body. And then she wouldn't be able to be triumphant anymore.

She followed Aurelia into the car, purposely sitting right beside her.

"You're such a hypocrite, always pretending you don't care. I don't believe for a second that you're not bothered. Now Lana's Leopold's darling, and you're yesterday's news."
