She had no idea that Aurelia and William were also present; her bodyguard had kept that detail under wraps.
Skyler didn't feel for a second that Tanya cared about him. She was always drugging him on the sly, leaving him in a dazed haze, and she had Geoffrey release venomous bugs to bite him.
What got his goat was how she would, in front of everyone, claim he was sick, making him out to be some kind of freak. Everyone started avoiding him, leaving him isolated.
Aurelia, however, was different. She was always there with a word of encouragement, a compliment, shielding him from harm. Even when she heard the whispers that he was sick, she never shunned or feared him, but instead believed in him unconditionally.
Thanks to her, now everyone saw him as a prodigy, eager to be his friend.
With a Ph.D. in psychology, he was quite adept at reading between the lines. Aurelia didn't put on airs, and her expressions were genuine. She was truly kind to him.
Whereas Tanya's gaze was always shifty, a sure sign of guilt and insincerity, hinting at some deep-seated conspiracy.
"I'm just a kid, and what could anyone possibly gain from using me?"
Tanya stroked his head gently, "You're not clueless, not with all those degrees you've earned. I heard that the Stirling family's eldest daughter got stung by a jellyfish, a nasty one at that, and you found a way to save her."
Skyler shrugged, "Geoffrey used to keep those jellyfish. He taught me how to treat the poison, so I knew what to do. Everything I know is from Geoffrey."
William couldn't help but snicker from upstairs.
Skyler was playing it cool, a master of stealth. Indeed, a wise man keeps his wisdom to himself.
Tanya glanced at him wistfully, "Did you hear about Leopold's wife, Megan? She got poisoned, pretty badly, too. She's in the ICU. You'll come with me to the hospital later, maybe you can figure out an antidote for her."
