Aurelia rose from the table, excusing herself to the restroom.
Avery took a sip of his apple juice, murmuring, "Once I start making money, Aurelia won't have to work this hard. After my illness, we drained our savings. Mom and Dad lost their jobs, and it's all on Aurelia's shoulders now. She must've borrowed a lot of money for my treatments. When I have money, we won't have to worry about debt collectors hounding her."
Arnold was shaken. He had never heard Aurelia mention any of this. He hadn't realized how much she'd been enduring alone.
"Avery, if you and Aurelia ever find yourselves in trouble, you must tell me immediately. In Elysium, there's nothing I can't handle."
"Okay." Avery nodded. He could tell Arnold was a powerful man. Knowing he was by Aurelia's side made him feel at ease.
Aurelia emerged from the restroom, but as she rounded a corner, a strong arm pulled her into an adjacent room.
She opened her mouth to scream, but when she saw the cold, handsome face, her voice caught in her throat.
"Mr. Leopold, what are you doing?"
Leopold's gaze fell on her shoulder, icy and sharp as a blade.
That's where that pest had touched her.
"Who's that pest?"
His anger made her shiver. "What pest?"
Leopold gripped her shoulder, his fingers scraping her skin. She winced in pain.
"If he dares to touch you again, I'll cut off his hand!"
Only then did Aurelia realize who he was referring to. She used all her strength to shake off his hand.
"You're the pest! That's my brother, my own flesh and blood!"
Leopold paused, finally recalling the call from Laura last night about her brother's arrival.
But his anger did not subside.
"So the moment your brother arrives, you can't wait to introduce him to Arnold?"
