“I’m so sorry. I didn’t mean any harm. I was trying to save Mom and Dad. They said they would let my parents go if I did as they told me,” Ramona stammered, her voice breaking with desperation.
Kane shook his head, a frown creasing his brow. “You’re being too naive. Those guys are ruthless outlaws, not known for keeping their word. Even if you do what they're asking, there’s no guarantee they'll release your parents.”
“What should I do, then?” Tears cascaded down Ramona’s cheeks like rain in a relentless storm, her sobs heartbreakingly raw.
William pulled out a handkerchief and handed it to her, his face softening. He hated to see a girl cry.
“Don’t worry. SkyWill stands for justice. We’ll get your mom and dad back safe and sound.”
At the Stirling Mansion, Beverly had just arrived.
When she entered the living room, her eyes locked onto a familiar silhouette.
Her face lit up. “Leopold, you’re out of the hospital?”
The man turned around, and it was a bodyguard instead of Leopold.
She staggered back, her pulse racing. “Peter? What are you doing here?”
Gosh, the guy could have been Leopold’s twin. Was this stand-in getting too cozy?
Cool as a cucumber, Guardian Leopold replied, “I’m the personal bodyguard for Mrs. Stirling and the young master, at their service around the clock.”
Beverly’s jaw dropped. Didn't the around-the-clock service sound like bedside service?
Could Jessica ignore this? Or was she oblivious to how bold this bodyguard was?
Aurelia descended the staircase, fresh from the office.
“Beverly, good to see you. Jessica caught a cold last night from the air conditioning. She’s resting in her room. You can pop in to see her.”
“Oh,” Beverly nodded, her gaze drifting back to Guardian Leopold. “Aurelia, this Peter is a dead ringer for Leopold as a stand-in. I almost mistook him for the real deal and thought Leopold got discharged.”
In her mind, Aurelia snorted, “He is indeed Leopold.”
