Bella squatted next to the bed, gently nudging Wyatt twice.
She tried to sound casual and comforting. “What’s wrong? Feeling embarrassed? Come on, it’s no big deal. In this day and age, who would dare to talk about this? Wouldn't that just be dragging themselves down? Besides, the entire KS Group belongs to the Thompson family. If it were me, I would take a dump at the front gate, and people would come around and praise me for it. Who would dare spread rumors?”
Justin and Quentin were speechless.
Although they knew Bella was trying to comfort Wyatt, a more refined choice of words might have been better.
Wyatt remained silent, lying there with his back turned to her.
“Wyatt, you’ve weathered countless storms. You won’t let something this small bring you down, right?” Bella was starting to feel anxious. “Wyatt! Can you stop being so weak? Pull yourself together. You have so many kids and wives to look after. What will we do if you collapse?”
“Bella,” Wyatt finally said. His voice was so hoarse that it was almost inaudible. “Have I disappointed you?”
Bella’s heart jumped. “Dad, what are you talking about? No, of course not!”
“I even hate myself... You all must find me incredibly troublesome,” Wyatt said, his body stiffening as he curled up even more. “Bella, do you know what I was thinking at that moment? I was thankful that your mother passed away earlier... Otherwise, if she saw me now, how disgusted and disappointed she’d be...”
He had not forgotten that Justin was right beside him. His willingness to show such vulnerability proved that he no longer saw Justin as an outsider.
“Dad...” Bella's lips trembled. She choked up, unable to speak.
