Just then, someone knocked on the door.
A well-matched couple stepped in. It was Asher and Arnold.
“Dad.”
“Chairman Thompson, how are you feeling today?” Arnold asked gently, standing beside the man he loved.
Wyatt glanced at his son before turning his kind gaze to Arnold’s clean, handsome face, teasing, “Why so formal all of a sudden? Why aren’t you calling me Dad today?”
Bella and Justin looked surprised.
The fair-skinned Arnold blushed deeply at the remark. He lowered his long eyelashes as he became flustered.
Seeing how shy Arnold became, Asher felt a warmth in his heart. He took Arnold’s sweaty hand and intertwined their fingers tightly.
“Dad, Arnold is quite shy. Please don’t tease him like that.”
Bella’s beautiful eyes curved into crescents as she watched the couple, a wide smile spreading across her face. ‘Ah, love certainly changes people. The once aloof Asher is now adept at protecting his beloved.’
Wyatt gave them a meaningful look. Then, his gaze eventually settled on their clasped hands. Suddenly, his brows furrowed.
“Ash, what happened to your fingernails? Why are they so dark?”
Asher was momentarily stunned. He looked down and then smiled warmly. “Arnold loves nuts. Last night, I went out to buy some roasted chestnuts and spent all night peeling them for him. It’s probably from the chestnut shells.”
Arnold’s heart was pounding, his blush deepening adorably.
He was extremely nervous. Given Asher’s esteemed status, it was unimaginable that his hands, once used to sign important documents and grand plans, were now used as tools to peel chestnuts. What kind of parent would be happy with that?
However, instead of being angry, Wyatt said casually, “Ah, that’s fine then. I thought you had nail fungus. I was worried you might pass it on to Arnold. How would he treat patients then?”
