Outside the gates of Yara Park, Christopher stood alone under the streetlamp as the evening breeze blew around him, waiting for the person he had been longing for.
It was unclear how much time had passed when the gates finally opened.
Bella appeared, wearing only a thin, light blue dress. Her eyes were as deep and dark as ink, and her gaze was sharp as she walked toward him with determined steps.
“Bella,” Christopher said as his eyes lit up with joy.
Seeing Bella dressed so lightly, he hurriedly took off his suit jacket, intending to drape it over her shoulders. He looked worried and said, “Bella, why didn’t you wear a coat? It’s so cold, you’ll catch a cold.”
“Don’t touch me!” Bella’s beautiful eyes were cold as she abruptly stepped back.
It was as if the man before her was a venomous snake ready to strike her at any moment, ending her life with just a single bite.
Christopher’s arms awkwardly froze, and his already pale complexion grew even more ashen.
“Christopher, don’t push your luck.”
Bella’s eyes were filled with intense hatred, and the words she forced through her gritted teeth were sharp and cold. “I came out here just to see how low and shameless you can be. I’m here to learn from your despicable behavior.”
She continued, “You must be really naive if you think I don’t know who’s behind the incident involving Asher and Arnold. Did you really think hiding behind James and pulling the strings would keep you safe? You clearly underestimated me!”
Bella’s blunt accusation didn’t seem to faze Christopher’s composed demeanor, but his eyes reddened and his voice became hoarse and shaky, as if he were deeply hurt. “Bella, I swear I didn’t do it!”
He continued, “Even if I’ve made mistakes before, I had nothing to do with what happened to Asher this time. I only learned about it through the news!”
His lies were slick and effortless. He had said them so often that he almost convinced himself that they were true.
“Besides, what’s the point of me framing Asher? I’m already the CEO of the Iverson Group. I’ve already got what I wanted, why would I take that kind of risk and do something unnecessary? James is the culprit here. He’s the one with a reason to do it, the one who’s eager to take down Asher to win my father’s favor and regain his trust!”
Bella stared at him without blinking, her rosy lips curling into a mocking smile. “Christopher, have you really gotten what you wanted?”
Christopher was stunned.
“I know what you want. The infighting within the Iverson family has nothing to do with me. I don’t care whether you live or die.”
