Ralph gritted his teeth, feeling peevish about the whole situation. “He plays dumb throughout the interrogation. Later, his attorney told me that he would only talk once he sees you.”
“Don’t go, Bella.” As his eyes turned red, Justin shook his head. “It might be part of Christopher’s plan. I can’t let you meet with him.”
“Oh, my. Are you jealous?” With a smile, Bella drew circles on his chest.
“Don’t go, Bella. I’m serious.” Justin’s voice was raspy.
“I’m going. I’m serious.” Bella looked at him with sparkling eyes. “My family has a history of taking risks. I can’t be the one to break the family tradition.”
…
Ralph met Bella in the lobby of the police station. Knowing that it was his stop, Justin halted his heavy footsteps.
Christopher occupied a single room in the detention center, which held only a stiff bed.
Even in the harsh conditions of his imprisonment, Christopher sat up straight in his well-tailored suit, his hair perfectly in place.
His pale face was marred by the shadow of a beard, adding a hint of desolation to his usual sophistication.
Christopher opened his eyes at the familiar clicking of heels.
His gaze penetrated the iron bars, locking onto Bella, who stood perpetually on the other side.
She had always been the woman he loved and waited for.
