“Grandpa, please calm down.” After a long silence, Grant finally stepped forward, his smile warm and gentle.
“You’ve misunderstood Dad, and you’ve also misunderstood me. I’ve never had any intention of taking Justin’s place. I’m someone who’s lived with a crippled body for years—being alive and well is already a blessing. I wouldn’t dare to ask for anything more. In my eyes, there’s no one more suited to lead the Salvador Corporation than Justin. Please don’t worry or get upset over this.”
Nigel gazed at Grant’s calm expression, but a startling recollection flooded his mind—a bloodied young boy, his lips curving into a chilling smile as he held onto a butcher’s knife.
A sharp ache shot through his chest, and his body trembled violently before Grant quickly stepped in to steady him. “Grandpa, be careful!”
Nigel struggled to regulate his breathing and held onto Grant’s cold and smooth hands. His voice trembled with a plea. "Grant... You wouldn’t harm Justin, would you? He lost his mother at such a young age and suffered so much through endless hardships. He’s given everything for Salvador Corporation. Please, for his sake, try to be understanding... Don’t make things harder for your old grandfather, okay?”
Grant’s smile softened, but there was a haunting edge to his expression. “Grandpa, it seems you’ve forgotten that I, too, lost my mother when I was very young.”
Nigel’s breath hitched, his chest tightening.
“But don’t worry,” Grant said soothingly, his cold hand now covering Nigel’s weathered one, gently caressing it. “No one can take what belongs to Justin, not even me.”
…
After slipping out of sight, Bella heaved a deep sigh of relief.
She had no intention of appearing in front of Clarice or causing any commotion today. Her goal was to scope out the area and plan her next steps carefully.
For now, she had recorded everything she witnessed in the hospital. She would analyze it thoroughly later.
