Justin wanted to say something to comfort her but didn’t know where to begin, so he remained silent.
“Did I let you down?” Bella sniffled, rubbing her nose red, forcing a bitter smile.
“No.”
Perhaps he had asked too much of her. She was just a young woman—smart, capable, resourceful, and brave enough to stand against such depravity. She was already so strong and perfect. What right did he have to demand more resilience from her?
Yet, seeing her so meek and vulnerable made him squirm with discomfort.
“We’ve found it! We’ve recovered Ms. Smith’s phone!”
With so many people performing the search in the morning light, it did not take long to locate Yvonne’s blood-stained phone.
“Yvonne...” Bella’s fear peaked at the sight of the blood; her heart was filled with dread.
Thankfully, Justin remained calm. He tried to switch the phone back on and it worked!
“What’s the password?” Justin asked, his voice steady and gentle as he looked at the tearful Bella.
She took the phone with trembling hands and entered Drew’s birthday. The screen unlocked effortlessly.
In the photo gallery, there were several images of documents. Fearing any mishap, Yvonne had saved backups on her phone.
As Justin and Bella carefully examined the files, he subconsciously leaned in, their heads almost touching.
Since they were both fluent in French, it made the task seamless.
Intrigued, Ryan joined in. But his French had been woefully lacking since childhood, so he stood there cluelessly.
“RC Biotech Research Center is the culprit behind those human drug experiments! The drug had originated from RC Biotech!” Bella’s eyes burned with determination as she met Justin’s intense gaze.
“Yes. This must be the information Yvonne retrieved from Pivotage. Christopher left it there before he could take it with him.”
“Does that mean Yvonne was targeted and hunted down because she had this information?” Ryan asked urgently.
Bella tightened her grip on the phone, her sharp gaze narrowing further. “Since this file was found at Pivotage, it confirms that RC Biotech Research Center's point of contact in the country was Christopher.
