Lorraine threw her arms around Matthew's neck. "Are there really dogs around? Let's go then!"
Matthew felt like his heart was going to melt from her hug and the warm breath fanning over his neck. She'd always loved clinging to him.
At the same time, he couldn't help feeling guilty. Lorraine had already been kidnapped twice. He couldn't allow it to happen again.
…
William and Sheldon sat in the Smith family's villa. They stared at a phone on the table. An hour had passed, but it had yet to ring.
William frowned. "Don't tell me they've all lost."
Sheldon shook his head. "Metal Mac's a true martial artist, and regular martial artists are no match for Jack's gun. How could they both have lost? Don't worry. Matthew isn't capable of that."
As soon as the words were out of his mouth, the phone rang. Sheldon answered it and put it on speaker. "How are things?"
The voice on the other end of the line sounded terrified. "Dead… they're all dead… and it's horrific… None of them can get back to us because they're dead!"
Sheldon shot to his feet, overturning the chair in the process. He cried, "How's that possible?"
William's expression turned sour. It looked like the Smith family had stepped on a powerful person's toes. He had mixed feelings as he glanced at Sheldon. "Could it be that he's even more powerful than you are?"
Sheldon's expression became scornful. "He doesn't deserve to be compared to me. He and I aren't even in the same league."
William exhaled deeply, feeling relieved. "You… How powerful are you, really?"
He'd always been curious about the different skill levels of martial artists. But whenever he asked, Sheldon refused to tell him. Still, the more Sheldon said so, the more curious William became.
Sheldon said somewhat proudly, "Don't try to understand this world if you're not in it, Grandpa. It'll just add to your worries.
